Adopting

We are so excited to help you introduce your new furry friend into your life! Rabbits are extremely rewarding companions, but are often misunderstood due to inaccurate information. Please be sure to do your research prior to adopting to help avoid issues.

Below are some topics you will want to read about and become familiar with in preparation for welcoming your new friend!

Diet

Rabbits should have unlimited access to hay and fresh water at all times. It is a common belief that rabbit pellet food has everything a rabbit needs, and so a rabbit can live off of them rather than having fresh hay - this is incorrect! Rabbits need hay to help keep their teeth a healthy length, and the fiber helps keep them from getting stasis. It is extremely important that unlimited hay is provided and a very limited amount of pellets should be given based on the rabbit's weight. For more information on what rabbits can and cannot eat, please see our Basic Bunny Care page.

Housing

We only adopt to indoor home only. Many rabbit cages and hutches available for purchase are not acceptable for rabbits. A small cage can be used in addition to a larger area where the rabbit can run around and get exercise. Some rabbit owners allow their rabbits to "free roam" but this should only be done with certain precautions and proper "bunny proofing". Please feel free to reach out with any questions regarding proper bunny housing!

Bonding

Rabbits are social creatures and do best when they are part of a bonded pair. If you are introducing a new bunny to an existing one in your family, you will want to understand the bunny bond. Bunnies, like any other creature, has their preference for companionship, and not all bunnies get along with each other. It is important to let your bunny choose their partner, and not try and force a bond between two bunnies.

We offer Bunny Speed Dating to help with this process, and we are here to help answer any questions you might have along the way!

Allergies

Rabbits require unlimited access to hay at all times. If you or someone in your household has allergies to hay, it is important to make sure you/they are ok with having hay around, or be able to take the necessary precautions (like using air purifiers, or wearing Proper Protective Equipment when handling the hay) prior to introducing you new friend to the family.

Application Process

Thank you for being here! We are so excited to help you find the perfect companion!
