Please see the information below to best be prepared for welcoming your new fluffy friend into your life.

Getting Ready for your new companion:

Step 1

  • Find some good resources on Rabbit Information - there is a lot of different information out there about rabbits, and the best way to provide care. Be sure you have good resources to understand the best ways to care for your rabbit.

  • Find a rabbit savvy vet near you. Rabbits are considered an exotic pet, so not all veterinarians will work with them.

  • Create a good habitat for your future rabbit. We only adopt bunnies to those with indoor housing. Rabbit hutches, or small cages are not appropriate. Rabbits need room to run and binky, but should also be kept from toxic or dangerous items, like most house plants, and electrical cords. We require photos of the setup prior to adoption. Please feel free to reach out with any questions on the best setup for your bunny!

  • Check for allergies! Hay allergies are quite common, make sure you are able to be around hay, or can wear protective gear (ex: gloves and a face mask) when handling the hay to avoid issues.

  • Learn about the rabbit diet. Some believe pellets can be a replacement for other foods, but they should in actuality be used in small amounts to help supplement a mostly hay diet. There are also many unsafe foods, or foods that should be given in small doses. Check out our Basic Bunny Care page for a list of good and bad foods for rabbits.

Step 2

  • Check out our adoptable bunnies! See our Adoptable Bunnies page for a list of currently available rabbits.

  • Are you looking for a companion for a bunny you already have?

    • Speed dating is available for those looking for a companion for a current pet. We do require rabbits to come to the rescue for speed dating. Please see our Services page for more information on Bunny Speed Dating.

    • Rabbits are social creatures and create strong "bonds" with other rabbits. Please consider adopting two bonded rabbits as opposed to one, or be prepared to adopt a second rabbit shortly after the first. Rabbits help care for each other, and can ultimately be less work for the caretaker than just one.

    • Read about bunny bonding. There are many methods for bunny bonding, and depending on your bunnies, you may need to try a few different methods.

  • Do you have other animals or children?

    • It is often thought that rabbits are good "beginner pets" for childeren, but this is unfortunately not the case. Rabbits communicates mostly silently, relying on body language, and require a watchful and knowledgeable eye to know when there is a problem. Rabbits are very delicate, and can quickly develop problems if not properly cared for. A rabbit should never be given to a child to be taken care of, they must be the responsibility of the adult.

    • Animals have their own preferences, and may or may not get along with your current pets. House cats in general tend to do fine with rabbits, but dogs (depending on the breed) can sometimes have more hunting and herding instincts, or rough play that can result in injuries. If you have questions or concerns about whether you think your existing animals will get along, please feel free to reach out and we are happy to help assess. Introducing any new animal to an established group should be done with patiences and care.

Step 3

  • Fill out an application and send it to binkybunnytalesrescue@gmail.com

    • We want you and your new companion to be happy, so if it doesn't end up working out, we will happily take the rabbit back. We love all our rabbits and want to ensure the best home for them, and we understand that sometimes unexpected life changes can happen.

  • Send us photos of your bunny housing. We require indoor housing for all of our bunnies. Most cages sold in stores do not provide adequate space for rabbits, and must be accompanied by appropriate expanded areas that the rabbit can access if used. There are many types of setups that work great, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out!

    • We might request some changes to your setup depending on the needs of the rabbit. We are happy to work with you to ensure a successful adoption.

Step 4

  • Keep in touch! We love to hear how our bunnies are doing, and we are open to help with any questions or concerns!

  • Bring your bunny by for a spa day! We offer "Spa Services" for nail trims, scent glands, and grooming.

  • Board your bunning with us! If you are going out of town, we offer boarding for bunnies so that you can have peace of mind knowing your rabbit(s) is in good hands.

Adoptable Bunnies

All of the bunnies that are available for adoption have been spayed or neutered and are in good standing health.
